Planning Policy

As a landowner or developer, you need to be aware of the Council’s plans and policies contained in Development Plan Documents (DPDs) that affect the use of land and buildings.

Making Representations

You have the opportunity to influence the content of DPDs by making representations that will help to protect your interests or positively promote change for example, to seek the allocation of a particular site for development during the plan period.

The importance of making representations cannot be underestimated.  The Council’s plans and policies can remain in place for up to 10 years before they are reviewed.  This may inhibit the ability of a landowner to carry out development.

Because of the complexity of the procedure for plan-making which provides ample opportunity for public comment, the time taken for completion and adoption of the DPDs by the Council can run into several years.  Bowen Planning will monitor progress and assist you to make the necessary representations at the appropriate time.
